Premium Tatkal scheme is a new quota introduced by the Indian Railways reserving few seats with dynamic fare pricing to book the train tickets. This scheme is different in some points but with regard to timings, it is identical to the normal tatkal scheme. Many benefits can be obtained under this scheme and no such complications are involved in the booking process. So, you have the option to book a normal or premium tatkal ticket, depending upon your requirements.

Premium Tatkal Booking Time

The only thing which makes them different is their pricing system. The pricing of the normal tatkal tickets is on the basis of travel classes, whereas the pricing of the premium tatkal tickets changes dynamically. In this situation, the more the demand for tickets, the higher will be the Tatkal ticket fare. But there is no change in the premium tatkal booking time. It is opened by 10:00 AM for AC classes and 11:00 AM for Non-AC classes. Book the premium tickets on the specified time only to confirm your journey.

IRCTC Premium Tatkal Booking Steps


The premium tatkal ticket is the facility launched by the IRCTC in order to facilitate quick booking to all the passengers. The passengers must consider this thing that the Premium Tatkal Booking is not available to all the trains and is restricted to some trains. Here are the steps to book the Premium Tatkal ticket-

Step 1: Log in to the IRCTC website and provide your username and password.

Step 2: Go to 'Plan my travel' section and provide the journey details.

Step 3: Submit the details. Now the user can see the list of trains.

Step 4: Click on the Premium Tatkal button available next to the Select Quota section, providing the list of trains with the premium tatkal ticket facility.

Step 5: Choose the train and book the tickets as quickly as you can. This is because it will provide you with the lowest fare.

Step 6: Provide passenger details and submit the documents like Voter ID, PAN or any other government verified identity.

Step 7: Take a printout of the same or otherwise you will receive the e-ticket in the mail.

Why Premium Tatkal Booking Not Allowed?


Booking tatkal tickets require proper information about the same. Any fault or problem in booking can ruin the entire procedure of booking the tickets and the possibility of travelling to the destination. Under the premium tatkal ticket booking, only e-tickets are permitted and I-ticket booking is not allowed under this quota. Also, agents are not allowed to book the premium tatkal tickets.
